Today Bec in her new role as an ambassador for the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney, opened their new Diabetes Research Centre.
Bec spent time with some children, and their families, suffering from diabetes before speaking at the launch of the Centre.
Diabetes is in the top 10 significant diseases in the developed world and there is an unexplained increase. There is currently no cure for Type 1 Diabetes and it can cause long-term problems which commonly affect the eye, kidney and nerves. These complications can cause blindness, kidney failure, disabling pain, and lead to foot amputation and early death from heart disease.
November 14th is United National World Diabetes Day.
