As with all leading tennis players there is a team of people
behind them who help provide the support and assistance required to make their
careers a success.
This is common in all sports, one only has to look at the
top football, basketball and motor racing teams to see how many people there
are covering areas such as coaching, training, injury prevention, massage,
management, marketing, sponsorship, media, etc etc.
In an individual sport such as tennis, athletes require the
same level of support, often with particular people, dependant upon resources,
providing more than one role.
In the majority of cases the primary source of that support
comes from family, and Lleyton is no different from many other players where he
has great support from his and Bec’s families.
In addition to this support, Lleyton relies on a few people
to help in the types of areas listed above. Nathan Healey (Lleyton’s private coach), Ivan
Gutierriez (Lleyton’s physio and trainer) and David Drysdale (Lleyton's manager) feature in this section of the
website, with blogs providing insight of travelling with Lleyton, as well as some video tips to help tennis players of all ages and standards.
Support is also prominent for Lleyton from the Australian
Davis Cup staff, notably John Fitzgerald (captain), and
Dr. David Brookes (team doctor). Sydney personal
trainer Nathan Martin has also been a vital part of Team Hewitt, working with
Lleyton on his fitness when back in Sydney.
