BIO
Anthony “Tony” Dalton Roche, born 17th May 1945, in Tarcutta, New South Wales
Tony played for Australia under the tutelage of Harry Hopman.
He won the French Open in 1966, and was runner up at Roland Garros in 1965 and 1967.
He was also runner-up at Wimbledon in 1968 and the US Open in 1969 and 1970.
Teaming with fellow Aussie John Newcombe, they dominated men’s doubles Grand Slams wining a total of 12 Grand Slam titles.
Tony had a very successful Davis Cup career being part of the
championship team on 4 occasions as a player and once as coach in 1999.
Shoulder and elbow injuries cut short his career after having finished in the top 10 for 6 straight years.
After completing his playing career Tony became the coach of some very
successful players. Former world No 1s Ivan Lendl and Pat Rafter were
two he tasted success with, and more recently Tony was coach of Roger
Federer.
Tony joined as coach of Lleyton in July, 2007.
Tony was admitted to the Tennis Hall of Fame in 1986.
