Following are answers to questions sent to Lleyton through the fan mail section of this website.
From Stephen:
Is there any particular player who you would like to team up with for doubles but maybe haven’t had the opportunity?
Not sure really, I’ve been really fortunate to have played with many greats, from Andre Agassi, Pat Rafter, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. A lot of people say that John McEnroe was one of the greatest ever doubles players so it would have been nice to have played with him when he was at his best.
From Jasmin:
What routine, if any, do you go through before matches?
Normally I stay pretty low key before matches. I’ll go through a light warm up on court and then put my feet up and have something to eat for energy and normally listen to some music. I stick to myself but it’s always nice to have my close knit group around.
From Syed:
Why did you miss the 2005 French Open?
I had to pull out of the 2005 French Open after cracking my rib. It’s always disappointing missing Grand Slams but that one was tough cause I was playing well after reaching the Aussie Open Final.
From Julie:
Do you like cooking and if so what are your favorite foods?
I don’t do a lot of cooking but I do love cooking a BBQ. It’s a great Aussie tradition and one of my favourite meals.
From Jesse:
Having won the US Open & Wimbledon, is winning the Australian and French Opens the No 1 goal now in your career?
After having won 2 Grand Slams it definitely makes them the priority but each one is very special. It would be great to one day have the career Grand Slam but I would love another Wimbledon too!
From Deepak:
Who is your favourite cricketer and do you watch other teams beside Australia play?
I love watching the cricket especially over the Australian summer. In the past my favourites have been Steve Waugh, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist (who is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet). Now I’m a fan of Michael Clarke and think he’ll be a great Australian Captain one day. I also take a keen interest in the other results from around the world. I think India is a great side to watch also.
